Who We Are
The mission of the Glastonbury Education Foundation is to promote excellence, innovation, and creativity in education for our children and community.

Since 1978 over 3,000 communities across the country have established educational foundations with similar missions. From Maine to California they have raised millions of dollars to enrich the curriculum, improve teacher education and create partners-in-education projects. There are currently 77 established education foundations in Connecticut with 20 more in the organizing process.

Directed by a group of community residents, the Glastonbury Education Foundation is a 501(c)3 tax-exempt, non-profit organization that fundraises for a variety of community-based education initiatives.  During the past four year the foundation has raised nearly $400,000 from individual and business contributors.

What We Do
The Glastonbury Education Foundation, in consultation with the community and the schools, seeks to fund educational projects that are relevant, creative, effective, and inspiring. Proposed projects should have a definable value to the community. An emphasis is given to projects that fall into the following categories:

  • Programs, projects and activities that meet the increasing requirements of 21st century education with particular focus on science, technology, and the global community in which we live
  • Programs, projects and activities that help attract and retain superlative teachers
  • Programs that provide enrichment and add instructional, inspirational, and/or life experience value to the curriculum and to the community (i.e. expert-in residence, community symposiums, etc.)

Why We Do It
Town and education budgets have limits, especially in financially uncertain times. As a consequence, teachers, curriculum directors, and school administrators face limits in resources to enhance and enrich our children’s educational experience.

The foundation works by raising funds for educational programs that would not otherwise be included in the town's education budget. Whether or not every family has a child presently in our schools, our education system is an important asset to the community affecting everything from our quality of life to our property values. This is why we seek broad community support for the foundation.

As important as its commitment to children and youth, is the foundation's interest in supporting a broad range of education programs that involve adults. To address the needs of a modern-day citizen, learning is viewed as a lifelong process. The foundation desires to provide financial support for programs, projects and activities that promote educational opportunities for town residents, and for those programs that forge stronger links with the schools.
